Some more details on Radiant Photo 2

We’re excited and getting closer to Radiant Photo version 2.

The team wanted to share a few details before the official release to help you understand what to expect.

Technical Details

  • Works as a standalone application
  • It also includes a Photoshop and a Lightroom Classic plugin
  • No changes to file formats supported
  • If your computer can run version 1, you’ll be able to run version 2 (the system requirements are the same)
  • It is fully compatible with the latest macOS and M4 processors

Key Improvements

We’ve already posted about a few of them in our community here. But we’ve improved the workflow so you can enhance your images. The application’s ease of use has also been improved, and we think you’ll find it a significant upgrade.

Key improvements include:

A new Radiant Photo pipeline

We’ve changed the way that you’ll work with the app.  Instead of choosing a collection of Smart Presets, the application lets you analyze each photo and compare it against a collection of recommended improvements.  AI recognizes the type of content of your image and chooses and offers multiple ideal starting points. Note – all analysis happens on your own computer, and no personal details are ever transferred from the app.

The Radiant Photo – Core workflow offers multiple suggested starting points. Where you begin will be your personal choice. You can use a recommended setting or easily create your style. Once you have a favorite, you can assign a default starting point for each type of image.

Develop Settings

These are built on our Smart Tools technology. They each respond to the exposure and color in the image and intelligently adjust your photos for consistent results. Each will adjust to a target exposure value, meaning dark images are gently brightened, overexposed photos are recovered, and on-target images are left alone.

You’ll find a robust collection included in the app, with more available through Radiant Toolkit or our marketplace. Plus, you can fully customize the included ones or build your own smart settings from scratch.

Live Effects

Other editors need to generate preview images and pixels with each tool added; this leads to cached previews and interim copies… often with quality loss. Other apps lead to a need for lots of undos and reprocessing steps.

Radiant Photo 2 treats all tools as live effects.  All tools communicate with each other so that you can adjust any property through the entire pipeline and fine-tune your results.  You’ll continue to have a 16-bit workflow the entire time.

100% Nondestructive Editing

All your edits are automatically saved when you switch to the next photo. You can optionally choose a manual save to capture a favorite edit. You no longer need to render out images to save your edits until you’re ready.

But there’s no need to change your workflow.  All edits are stored in a small Siddecar file (.radiant), about 16 KB in size.  This means you can edit from your camera memory card and seamlessly move edits between computers.  There’s no catalog file and no special project files, either.  You can reopen an image from where you left off – typically in 2-3 seconds.

Workflows

Besides the AI scene detection offered by Radiant Photo-Core, four additional workflows are available at launch.  These optional add-ons are much more than preset packs… each customizes your application for a specific photography genre.

  • Task-based. Eight workspaces for common tasks to see just the tools you need.
  • Create your own. Build custom workspaces with just the tool groups you want.
  • Hide unwanted options. Disable workspaces you don’t need to make the app your own
  • Filtered. Use FILTER on any workspace to see only the active tools from the develop settings
  • Responsive. A dedicated workspace that reacts to Develop Settings and Legacy Presets

Improved tools

We have two new tools on the way… with more in the works.

  • Batch Processing Improvements.  New options to size on export.
  • Straighten tool. Easily rotate your image with decimal point accuracy. We know this is no big deal, but you kept asking for it, so we added it to the app.
  • Face Light. Easily relights your subject’s face.  As you adjust the exposure, the skin tones are preserved.  Plus, there’s independent control over light, shadow, and feathering.
  • Additional Film Simulations. More included film stocks.
  • Additional Color Grades. New creative options for color.
